In the SAP IoT Connect 365 User Interface (U)I, when configuring an endpoint, you have the can also activate an IMEI Lock. The International Mobile Equipment Identity (IMEI) is a unique number used to identify devices connecting to a GSM network. The IMEI lock option enables SAP users to lock the use of a SIM card to a specific device based on its IMEI.
To view the IMEI of an endpoint, go to the Configuration section for the endpoint.
The IMEI is displayed in IMEISV (IMEI+ Software Version) format. To lock the IMEI, click lock in the IMEI Lock field. Click Save.
Note:To use this IMEI lock, you do not need to know the IMEI of your device. This will be automatically filled in once the device establishes a PDP context. You just need to enable IMEI lock without any entry and the device will be locked, when the very first PDP context is established.
Effects of an IMEI lock
The UI will detect the IMEISV(software version of the IMEI) after the first PDP context is established i.e. once the device has Internet connectivity. The user will then have the possibility to lock the data usage of the SIM card to this specific device. If the SIM is used on a different one, the following alert will be shown in the UI:
“PDP Context Request rejected, because IMEI lock active, but IMEIs do not match, EP IMEI=3562580635695401, IMEI provided from network = 8628170310374321”
Current limitations of an IMEI lock
As the IMEI of a device is sent only when a PDP context is established, when an IMEI lock is activated, the non-data related features of the SIM will still work on any other device. The device will still be able to attach to the network and send and receive SMS.
